Disney, Scholastic & ABC Go Out On a Limb

I have to confess, I don't understand why Disney is willing to take a brand name that used to mean a lot to people and associate it with a supposed documentary -- oops, make that "docudrama" -- that they admit is fiction masquerading as history. What do they stand to gain from their participation in this controversy? Perhaps George Carlin is right about the people who really run this country -- maybe they do want us to be willfully ignorant.

I'd be tempted to boycott Disney, Scholastic, Inc., and ABC along with the others who have gotten all bent out of shape about this propaganda, but I took a look, and it would appear that I've already been boycotting them without knowing it. A lot of you already know how I feel about Disney (they made a couple of good movies a long time ago and I'm not amused by their parks), I've got absolutely no use for Harry Freakin' Potter, and have you seen the tripe in ABC's fall schedule? Gak. So, I'll make a few phone calls and hope that others -- travelers, school administrators/parents with kids who read, or Lost fans -- think about turning elsewhere for their entertainment until the people in positions of authority take a more responsible view toward how these companies might wield their power and influence.

UPDATES: Scolastic has withdrawn the materials and My Pet Goat has evolved.

ABC is still on TV?

Posted by: Ben at September 8, 2006 09:12 AM

They do have two big shows: Lost (is that a reality show?) and that Housewives thing. I wonder if any of the people who are up in arms about this movie are prepared to vote with their remotes. The only way to strike back at ABC is through their ratings and advertisers, but are people ready to do that? Will they give up their favorite shows? That remains to be seen. Like I said, I don't watch ABC already, and I gather you don't either. Perhaps someone who does will speak up...
