About
Hello! I'm Alice, which is my real name (most of the other names here have been changed, though, to protect the innocent). I live in an circa-100-year-old house in downtown Chattanooga, TN with my first husband, G-Dog (who is from New Canaan, CT), and a cockapoo named Nonnie (the moniker comes from a Laurens van der Post book). We have one kid (that we know of) -- a daughter, Emmie, who recently graduated from college and moved out on her own (keep your eyes open and you might spot her at some point, twirling joyously right before she tosses her hat in the air).
I originally hale from Batavia, NY, a quiet little town in rural western New York. G-Dog and I met while attending college in Carlisle, PA, and then moved on to Chapel Hill, NC together before finally settling in Tennessee. Other places we've lived in long enough to have a mailing address include London and San Francisco.
This blog is about a lot of things -- the places I visit, things I cook, people I meet, photos I take, things I read, and -- of course, politics. I'm an unrepentant, arugula-eating, progressive, liberal, lefty, euro-loving, educated elitist (yes!! bring on gay marriage, give us a single-payer, completely socialized health care system, and replace the stupid war on drugs with legal, regulated, uber-taxed marijuana -- and some very handy industrial hemp!).

Better than choosing Hillary. Now, if Obama could just stop slipping in the polls…
Biden does nothing for progressives. He voted for the AUMF – Iraq War vote. He is a craven shill for MBNA to the tune of $700k, in return he voted with the GOP for the horrible Bankruptcy Bill of 2005.
Hillary isn’t much better, but she has millions of supporters, Biden never had more than a handful.
If Obama wanted someone with good judgment, why BIden? This was a poor choice. Obama needs to get elected, he should have went with someone who at least could bring low information voters with them (Hillbots).
Meh.
I couldn’t possibly be less excited about this. Given the way the campaign has (n’t) been responding to the McCain attacks, I’m starting to think that Hillary would’ve been a much better choice.
I’m done with politics and the Democrats. They’ve broken my heart one too many times. Actually, several too many times.
Let’s not forget that he’s a plagerist.
No, that spurious accusation was discredited a long time ago: media matters (more here).
It is hilarious how the biased media and the Press portray their favorites. You might think Biden was Jed Clampitt – “a poor mountaineer, barely kept his family….” well, you know how the song goes if you grew up in the sixties. Let’s see. When he was first picked as running mate, he was pictured leaving a quaint, old house with his mother. That’s the picture he gave them–and that’s what they took and gave to the public. Actually…..that is not the only home on the Biden compound (what other family do you remember that lives in a compound??) If you pass through the gates and follow a long lane off of the beautiful Barley Mill Road which runs through the heart of the most prestigious acreage of real estate in Delaware (we’re talking the land of the Dupont’s here, folks) you will find a home big enough to house the entire Osmond family. Yes, there is a pool, yes there is a boat, yes, there is a lake, and yes there is a parking lot (no, not a driveway–a parking lot. Could you handle almost 12k a year in property taxes?
Now, as to the ” he rides the train every day to Washington.” Of course. Don’t expect Joe Biden to get on the hellish I-95 and drive to work everyday like the rest of us when he can sit in comfort in a Business Class train car where he can take a nice nap. The Amtrak Acela costs about two hundred bucks, folks. I wonder who pays for that?
Now, what about his allegiance. Is he a son of Delaware or is it now Scranton, Pennsylvania. Now, we’re hearing he grew up in Willow Grove, Pa. According to the media, he is now omnipresent–he grew up anywhere he needs to campaign. Delaware is not surprised. They know Delaware is just a convenient place for him to shower and shave. If the good people of Delaware want to see their representative, they know that the best chance they have is to turn on the TV because if a camera is rollling, Joe will put his face in front of it. Ask the good people of Delaware if they ever receive a newsletter from their Senator to keep them informed of what he is doing for their state. (Remember, folks, franking is a gift to these people. Mass mailings are free–we pay for them.)
And then there is the plagiarism issue of his last campaign. Teachers in the state of Delaware were rolling with laughter on this one in light of the fact that he is married to an English teacher. If anyone remembers the news clip of how he reacted in New England when called out on his misdeed by a reporter, you saw Joe Biden without the flashing smile–Mr Hyde simmers below the surface. Funny that the media didn’t rush to dig that up for us to see again.
Here’s the troubling part. A whole lot of people in our country have gone through a school system that has dumbed them down. They don’t read, investigate and think for themselves. They hear CNN bashing Republicans 24/7, they hear Oprah gushing and weeping at the sight of Obama, they listen to Letterman cracking jokes about Bush and McCain (when, by the way, did it become ok to disrepect the President of the US? Will Letterman feel just as comfortable caricaturing a President Obama or will he bow to the “things you cannot say or ask about the Obama family” list that Michelle Obama recently presented to the producers of “The View” when she appeared there. ) When our poorly educated voters don’t study the past and learn to read between the lines, they use the only thing they know to make a decision. They ask themselves, “Do I like what I see and do I like what I hear.” That would be perfect if only what they saw and what they heard from the media was the unbiased truth.
